Thursday 20th Dec 07
It has been a little while since I last posted and this is a reflection of how crazy things have been over the last 5 weeks or so.
My leg has healed well, I have a horrid looking scar but my leg works properly again and that is the main thing :). I am really enjoying my speed work (running) at the moment and have marked out distances on the wall so I can record my progress. I've been doing 8 - 10 80 metre sprints at full speed with a one minute recovery followed by 10 x 30 metre fast runs at about 85% max, again with one minute recoveries. I begin the sessions with a 10 minute warm up jog and stretch and end with a 10 minute slow jog as a cool down along with a stretch to finish.
It is so much fun, I could do it all day. I have also been doing my hill sessions which I love. I have been doing a 10 minute warm up jog then 5 x 20 second steep hill sprints at full speed with a one minute recovery then straight into a 4 minute 1km run. I walk back to recover and then do it all again and if I am feeling particularly energetic I'll do one more for luck! It is such a great workout I feel pumped for the rest of the day.
My son Cody and step-daughter Gemma had thier grade 6 graduation last night at Marybrook Reception Centre near Kallista. It was such a lovely evening; the boys and girls each had thier own limo's pick them up from the school where they were all looking very sharp in new outfits complete with hair "do's". It had been such a build up to the evening it was great just see it finally take place. Each of the children did a speech and they were all so wonderful; very confident and often very funny - far beyond how many of us were at 12. The grade 6 teacher had put together a really fantastic slide show presentation to music that just about had us all going into the ugly cry, it was really special. After the speeches we got told to take a hike and the teachers and the kids had a three course dinner together in the gorgeous dining room. They had such a wonderful time. It was late when we got home though and I was very surprised to see how well the kids went off to school this morning considering the lack of sleep. Only today and half of tomorrow to go and then it is all over for this year and the end of primary school altogether for Cody and Gem.
We have thunder storms going on right now and my rottie is hiding under my desk snuggled into my feet - the big sook!
Not long now till Christmas and the kids are all very excited; it feels nice to be slowing down just a bit as the year comes to an end.
My planning for 2008 is almost complete; I plan for it to be a very big year in many ways and looking forward to seeing what it brings.
Friday 9th Nov 07: I was just reading through my last post and boy has a lot happened since then! The 3 weeks after my run I hit the wall with low energy, higher than usual heart rate and low blood pressure as well as constant tiredness. All stuff I was told I could expect but though didn't apply to me :)
I kept my weight training up and managed a few shorter runs but it was all a bit of an effort really. Just as I started to come good and regain energy I had a mole removed from my lower leg and had stitches for almost 2 weeks. In the second week I could run and train (taekwondo) and all was well until my stitches came out! Wednesday night I split my scar open first kick! So now the doc reckons no taekwondo training for 3 months until the scar has healed to almost full thickness (it is in a very troublesome spot and everytime I rotate to kick it will split) and 1month of no running!!! I'm trying hard not to panic and plan to really focus on my weights this next month and give it more time than I normally would. Another week and I should be able to walk at least.
Quite a spanner in the works really.
I've finished sulking now and am resigned to the fact I need to take care of it or it is going to cause me major problems.
That is the beauty of having so many ways to enjoy fitness, ironically I really missed weights when I hurt my shoulder and now I give it my complete focus which is nice.
On a personal note my son Cody and step daughter Gemma have been doing a public speaking course at school (they are in grade 6) and last night the school held a graduation ceremony for the kids to show us what they had learnt.
Their speeches were really good; I was very proud of them both and they were very proud of themselves too. In December the kids attend a graduation ceremony at a lovely old manor where they speak again and dress up and have dinner (parents have to go) and dance and have a great time.
I can't believe Year 7 is just around the corner. I'm really going to miss chatting to Cody in the car to and from school everyday and being able to walk him to his class room and say "hi" to his teacher. God help me when the leave home!
Chloe had her first singing lesson yesterday after 2 years of asking for them and she had a wonderful time and has been singing up a storm ever since!
I'm just about to head off to have an hour long facial as consolation I will be "grounded" for the next month!
